Early Experiments

After reading forensic reports on rates of human decomposition, I did small responses to the process of human physical decay. Using different textures and painting techniques to achieve a more gnarled characteristic in my work, my aesthetic seems to be quite morbid and macabre. This is the reality of the physicality of death. However, i don’t know if i want to be this brash. Perhaps using elements of popular western culture, like horror films, could play a part in communicating our sense of separation from the reality of death. I want to read more about our attitudes towards death in a modern western society, compared to other parts of the world, that have more connection and ritual associated with coming to terms with the fundamental nature of death.
